Video Reports from Spring COMMON 2007

June 13, 2007

Videos from COMMON, First installment: Mark Shearer, Richard J. Schoen, Martin Pladgeman

System iNetwork ventured into video reporting at this year's COMMON conference. We asked industry expert Bob Cozzi to sit down and chat with key IBMers and also a few vendors at the COMMON Expo who had major new product announcements.

This first video features Mark Shearer, IBM's System i general manager, who looks back at the most interesting changes in his two-and-a-half-year tenure (VIP Program, new entry-level boxes, academic initiative) and forward on what customers can expect in the future (hardware innovation, new customers through a focus on business applications).

The second video features Richard J. Schoen of RJS who briefs Bob on two new products: iPDF and iForms. iPDF converts RPG to PDF, and iForms is a forms design and reports generator.

The third video features Martin Pladgeman of BOSaNOVA who discusses Q3, a new backup encryption appliance that sits between a System i host and a tape drive and encrypts on the fly using two soft keys and one hardware chip key.

I like this kind of stuff. I know that sounds simple, but the System i needs more stuff like this to generate buzz and to provide different means of delivering the same honest message one how the best dang platform on earth is doing. Nice job Bob!

Video content is very helpful, but it seems to take about 30 minutes to download a 5 minute video.
